“Mike’s commitment to Denver workers is undeniable.“
The SMART Local 9 Sheet Metal Workers Union today announced their endorsement of Mike Johnston in the runoff election for Denver Mayor.
“SMART Local 9 Sheet Metal Workers is proud to endorse Mike Johnston for Denver Mayor,” said Jon Alvino, Business Manager of SMW#9. “Mike’s commitment to Denver workers is undeniable. He took the time to sit down with us, listen to our concerns, and commit to fighting for pro-worker policies that will ensure Denverites in every corner of the city are treated fairly in the workplace. He’s also the only candidate in this race with a long track record of delivering on the policies that workers need, and we know he’ll continue to deliver as Mayor.”
Mike has long worked to deliver real results for working Denverites. In the State Senate, he fought against harmful “Right to Work” legislation and sponsored legislation that would keep jobs in Colorado. He also led Gary Community Ventures, a local nonprofit, where he led the effort to pass funding for affordable housing statewide and helped start a program to provide down payment assistance to Black and African-American first time homebuyers.
“The members of SMART Local 9 Sheet Metal Workers are critical to ensuring we have well-trained tradesmen and women who are building our city’s infrastructure while ensuring the safety and health of our communities’ indoor air quality,” said Mike Johnston. “As we continue to work to ensure every Denverite is connected to neighborhoods across the city and has strong, safe infrastructure because of the work these men and women do, I’m thrilled to have the support of SMART Local 9 SMW, and I look forward to working with them to take on the toughest issues facing Denver workers every day.”
Today’s endorsement comes as Mike has worked to earn the support of labor across the city, resulting in endorsements from both UFCW Local 7 and SMART Local 9 SMW.
