Former Speaker Terrance Carroll and former Senate President Peter Groff back Mike Johnston in runoff election
Following his commanding first place finish in the Denver Mayoral election on Tuesday, Mike Johnston earned the endorsement of former Colorado House of Representatives Speaker Terrance Carroll and former Colorado Senate President Peter Groff.

“I’m proud to endorse Mike Johnston in the race to be our next Mayor in Denver,” said Speaker Terrance Carroll. “From his time as a school principal to serving in the state Senate to leading on affordable housing and closing the racial wealth gap as a non-profit CEO. Mike has spent his entire career fighting for the communities in our city who most need a compassionate and effective voice in their corner. Mike and I have been close friends for many years, and I know that as our next Mayor, he will be the servant-leader that this city needs to make Denver a place of opportunity for everyone.”
Former Colorado Senate President Peter Groff, Mike’s predecessor in Senate District 33 and the first African-American to serve as Senate President, also cited Mike’s track-record of delivering real results for Denverites in his endorsement.
